Sunday 6th July 2025 – Whitby
It had been decided that for this month we would go to Whitby for a day out and for those who wanted a walk they could do so. After all of the sunshine for the past few weeks we were all looking forward to some nice weather for the day. Some of us were there in shorts and tee shirts but what happened we were greeted by rain. The coach stopped in Gotland for the usual coffee and toilet break, most heading for the nearest café as there was still a bit of drizzle about but at least it looked like it was fairing up. The rain had stopped by the time we arrived in Whitby although it wasn’t that warm. After being dropped off and told that the coach would be leaving at 4pm people drifted off to do their own thing.
The sun did come out in which made for a pleasant afternoon. David Torrington wanted to go crab fishing near the harbour bridge. After walking round he eventually found a shop selling buckets so off we went to do some fishing only to find out that you could get all the gear free from where you could fish. After pushing some smaller boys out of the way he started to fish. All you did was drop a baited mesh basket on a string into the water, had a talk for a few minutes then lifted the basket up and hay presto upto four or five baby crabs were in the net.
Right on cue Andy our trusted drive came and picked us up for the return journey back home. Everyone saying what a lovely day they had had and hoped we could do it again next year. There were 41 people on the trip with most falling asleep after a tiring day.
