Sunday 7th December 2025 – Hathersage Area & Xmas Lunch

Eleven hardy walkers hopped off t’bus at Fox House to set off on our Christmas walk from t’Longshaw Estate, headin’ down Padley Gorge towards Hathersage. It were fair wet and muddy underfoot, so we ’ad to watch where we were puttin’ us feet, but we made steady progress wi’ water rushin’ an’ waterfalls clatterin’ their way down t’gorge.

We got onto lane by Grindleford Station an’ carried on to t’owd chapel, where a nice hot brew were right welcome. Then it were up t’path into Rough Wood — and aye, it lived up to its name, plenty o’ water runnin’ everywhere.

From there we headed down past Kettle House, under t’main Sheffield–Manchester railway line, where we spotted some grand lookin’ sheep wi’ big fancy horns. Trevor pipes up an’ tells us they were Swiss sheep — you don’t see many o’ them round ’ere!

Finally, we tramped along t’tarmac track into Hathersage for our Christmas lunch, quiz, and a cracking raffle — loads o’ prizes kindly brought by our members. Jean got a big thank you for all ’er hard graft this year, same wi’ t’walk leaders.

Here’s to another grand year ahead.

Merry Christmas an’ a Happy New Year to yer all!
