Sunday 4th February 2024 – Rufford Country Park Circular

The walk started at Rufford Country Park and Abbey and once the A614 road had been safely crossed, we strolled along field edges to reach the outskirts of Edwinstowe. Skylarks could be heard over the open fields as we continued alongside the River Maun to where had a short coffee stop. Continuing along open fields we soon reached a lovely woodland path along the edge of Sherwood Forest Country Park. Lunch was eaten at the Visitor Centre where Robin Hood made an impromptu appearance (see photos).

The pub stop today was in the historic North Nottinghamshire village of Edwinstowe at the Dukeries Lodge where we had reserved tables for our visit. The afternoon walk took us along a railway line past the disused Thorsesby Colliery signal box back to the A614 road. Crossing the road again a footpath took us back into Rufford Country Park where we walked around the lake and back to the coach. It was lovely to see snowdrops on various parts of the walk together with a couple of buzzards a heron and small wild birds in the hedgerows.

Thanks Dave for a beautiful and varied walk and Dave Ty for helping Jan with backmarking duties
In addition to Dave’s photos, thanks goes to Dave Ty, Dave C and Graham their photographic contributions.
