Sunday 2nd August 2026 – Filey to Scarborough
Forty of us boarded the coach for Filey, where we dropped off the walkers at the Country Park. Twenty one of us set off for the walk, leaving nineteen to enjoy a day in Scarborough.
Once again, we were blessed with lovely sunny weather, with a refreshing sea breeze every now and then. The walk was fairly easy, with just two or three gentle inclines to stretch the legs. This stretch of coastline is dotted with large caravan parks, with the occasional chalet seemingly right up against the coastal path.
At our coffee break, we were treated to a wonderful sight, seals basking in the sunshine on the rocks below. We carried on towards Cayton Bay for our lunch and toilet stop, spotting two kestrels along the way, as well as plenty of colourful butterflies and moths.
Scarborough seemed to be getting no closer, but we made the most of every patch of shade we could find. Eventually, we descended onto the beach and faced the seemingly never ending walk around the bay towards our coach pick up point.
Thankfully, we had made good time, leaving us with a little time to do our own thing before the journey home. Some headed off for a well earned drink, while others could not resist the temptation of fish and chips!
All in all, it was a fantastic 9 mile walk, with great weather, beautiful coastal views, plenty of wildlife and, as always, good company. Another brilliant day out with the walking club!
