With today being a ‘walkers only’ walk, Thirty seven walkers joined Verna for a circular walk around her childhood stomping ground starting at Newmillerdam near Wakefield. Once aboard the coach, Jean our organiser had some announcements.

  1. New walkers Peter and Carol were welcomed
  2. Walk proposals were needed today so the programme for 2019 could be priced up and produced in time to be handed out on the December walk.
  3. Christmas Walk/Dinner – again this will be held at the Little John in Hathersage – costing £8.  Jean explained the menu choices available and these would be collected along with the money for the meal on the way home.

After a bit of a soggy start, the weather improved as we set off walking along the waters-edge of Newmillerdam lake.  Along the way a heron was spotted fishing on the opposite bank.  Leaving the lake behind, the beautiful colour of autumnal foliage was a feature of the route that joined the Wakefield way, the route then taking in varied aspects of the lovely West Yorkshire country side.
