Sunday 12th January 2024 – Retford walk
Day started dry, but with the apprehension of how much water we were going to encounter.
27+Andy, started from the Hop Pole Pub on the Chesterfield Canal just outside Retford, down a path that we have walked before to the Hamlet of Welham. We then climbed steadily across fields with good views unfortunately they were behind us on to the pretty church at Clarborough.
On to Hayton by the way of Lovers Walk. I’m sure the walkers realised that we did a loop back to the pub at Clarborough (The King’s Arms) where the landlady makes us most welcome, allowing us to eat lunch in the pub.
After lunch we carried on through several fields back to the Chesterfield Canal at the Whitsunday Pie Lock, crossed over the bridge back to the road and on to the coach (thought you all coped well with the mud)
