Sunday 7th July 2024 – Holmebrook Valley Park Circular

Today’s walk started badly, with Jeff informing me that the main road into Chesterfield was closed. But bless Jeff; he found a cunning detour via Staveley, leading us triumphantly into Chesterfield. Twenty-seven walkers set off in the drizzle from Holmebrook Valley Park through fields and woods to Old Brampton, where we had coffee in the church grounds.

The next section encountered one or two stiles, which prompted a few comments of colourful language. Reaching farm buildings, the farmer allowed us to shelter from the heavy rain. After it had eased, we continued to Linacre Reservoirs, where we had lunch.

We headed down more tracks, eventually reaching Cutthorpe and the Three Merry Lads pub at about 2:00 PM. Suitably refreshed, we set off for the final stretch, heading towards the visitors’ centre at Holmebrook Park. Despite the initial hiccup and a few unexpected showers, a good day was had by all, I hope.
