Sunday 5th May 2024 – Baslow/Chatsworth Circular
We had thirty one walkers on today’s walk which included two new members. The walk started from the car park in Baslow and went past thatched cottages into the grounds of Chatsworth House, taking the slightly higher path towards the house we encounted a herd deer off to our left. When our group got to the main car park we veered off round the back of the house and started the climb with trees all around us up to the Hunters Tower were we stopped for a coffee break and a chance to take in the view and some photos.
The weather was lovely the sun was out and most had already taken their coats off, we carried on going up but by now the going was a bit easier. After leaving the wooded area we finely started to go down wards towards a tarmacked road and a single lane stone bridge where we turned left into a field, following the river Derwent downstream and onto the village of Beeley for our lunch break.
The pub stop was only a hundred yards or so down the road at the very nice if not very pricey Devonshire Arms. Retracing our steps back to the stone bridge we had a glimpse of a microlight and two Buzzards, crossing over the bridge and turning right into Chatsworth Park where a lot of people were out for a walk, playing ball games and having barbecues. On the walked along the river back to the coach encounted a lot of wildfowl.
