Sunday 1st December 2024 – Hathersage Christmas Walk

Today’s walk began at Fox House on a very wet and blustery morning, but that didn’t deter 15 determined walkers (bless them) from setting off. Our first destination was the picturesque Longshaw Estate, followed by a jaunt across the Grindleford road towards Owler Tor and Millstone Edge, complete with plenty of ups, downs, and stunning views along the way. Sadly, there was no ice cream van at the crossing of the Grindleford road—maybe it didn’t fancy the weather either!

We made our way through Mitchell Fields, where we encountered the famous Magic Gate—a mysterious marvel that opens and closes all by itself! From there, we strolled into a charming wooded area before arriving at the main Hathersage Road. Thankfully, our bus was ready and waiting to whisk us to the Little John Pub for a much-deserved lunch.

The afternoon was a treat, filled with festive cheer, quizzes, and a raffle brimming with prizes. A truly wonderful day, rain and all, capped off with great company and plenty of laughter.

Here’s to more adventures in 2025! Wishing everyone a very happy Christmas and all the best for the new year from Jean and David.
