Sunday 3 November 2024 – Wakefield Area Circular

Today’s adventure around Anglers Country Park was led by Verna, with a spirited group of 23 walkers setting off under cloudy but warm skies. We began our journey with a pleasant loop around the lake before veering off the main path towards Crofton, passing through a farmyard where we were greeted by a rather vocal (though pint-sized) watchdog!

Our path took us down a grassy track to Walton Nature Park, where we paused for a coffee break. Refreshed, we continued on parallel to the railway line, enjoying the view of a charming lake before reaching the main road.

Lunch was at Walton Sports Club, where we were warmly welcomed and treated to a front-row view of the lads playing football. We even witnessed a cracking goal! After lunch, we pressed on along the dry bed of the Old Barnsley Canal, and strolled through Haw Park, eventually wrapping up our 7-mile walk back at the visitor center around 2 pm.

Big thanks to Verna for leading us, Vivienne for capturing the day in photos, and Maggie for handling the collections on the bus! A fine day out was had by all!
