Sunday, 5th March 2023 – Pocklington circular
The coach dropped off 26 walkers near Pocklington, then took 3 non-walkers to York. We started our walk at Allerthorpe Wood. Luckily all paths were dry. The woods are very popular with dog walkers. After walking a few miles in the woods it was time for a refreshment break. To our surprise and delight there was a coffee wagon serving refreshments. The wagon is called Ethel and was a vintage sheep trailer. It is now converted into a welcoming mobile coffee house.
On our next part of the walk 3 roe deer were spotted by Jan Wildsmith. We eventually arrived in the village of Melbourne where we stopped at the Melbourne Arms for lunch. They kindly let us eat our sandwiches on the seats outside before popping inside for drinks and an open fire.
Leaving the pub we started our next part of the walk along the Pocklington Canal. There are information boards to read along the way which was interesting. We eventually finished our walk back in Pocklington. The 11 miles walked is probably one of the longest walks done by our club.
Thank you to Trevor Roebuck for leading the walk and Dave Dove for back-marking. Thanks also to Dave Wildsmith and Dave Carroll for adding some photos to my own.
